Privacy policy
The short version: the extension has no analytics and no account, your downloads never pass through our servers, and this website sets no cookies.
1. The browser extension
What is stored on your device. Your settings (for example whether the download button is shown) are stored in your browser's own extension storage, which your browser may sync between your devices if you use browser sync. The extension also keeps a copy of the latest compatibility settings it received, so it can work offline.
Where the extension connects.
- YouTube (youtube.com) to find the streams of the video you are on, exactly as your browser does when it plays the video.
- Google video servers (googlevideo.com) to download the file you chose, and i.ytimg.com to fetch the cover image. These go straight to your computer.
- Our server (api.youtubeturbodownloader.com), only when “Secure verification” is on. The extension downloads a signed settings file (no personal data is sent) and, when YouTube asks for proof that a request is genuine, asks for a proof token. That request contains an anonymous YouTube visitor identifier and nothing about the videos you watch or download. No cookies are sent.
Your video and audio files are never uploaded to us or converted on our servers. The extension contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
Welcome and goodbye pages. After you install the extension it opens our welcome page once, and when you uninstall it your browser opens our goodbye page. Both are ordinary pages: the extension sends nothing with them, and the goodbye page only stores an answer if you choose to send one (see section 4).
2. Server logs
Like any web server, ours records the IP address, time and requested address of each request. We keep these logs for up to 14 days to keep the service secure and to fix errors, then they are deleted.
3. This website
The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or images. Pages are served by our own server only.
4. Messages you send us
When you use the support form we store your email address, your message and the optional details you provide (add-on version, browser, system). We also store a keyed hash of your IP address to limit abuse; the address itself is not saved. If you answer the question on the goodbye page, we store the reason you chose and your optional note, without any email address or IP address, only to see why people leave and improve the extension. We use this only to answer you and to improve the extension. We keep messages until your request is resolved and for up to 12 months afterwards, then delete them. Messages may be forwarded to our support mailbox.
5. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and you can object to how it is used. Use the support form and mention the email address you wrote from. If you believe we handle your data unlawfully you may complain to your local data protection authority.
6. Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way we will update the date above and describe the change in the extension's release notes.
